Costa Rica is the #1 spot in the world for whale watching. The area is known as the “Whale’s Tail”, which you’ll see in our pictures gallery, earned its name because it looks just like a whale’s tale from the air and is home to humpback whales.
December to April, when the whales are making their migration south is one of the best times for whale watching. The other is from early July to late October when they turn around and head back to the north. With almost nine months of visibility, Costa Rica has the most whale watching days per year in the world.
You can usually spot the whales during a helicopter tour or by boat. Whether you choose to whale watch by air or sea, your on-site concierge at Punta Gabriela will help you with all of the arrangements and transportation. Grab your binoculars and your cameras! Whale watching in Costa Rica is definitely a “must” for all vacationers.
